Joan (---) (Dimbleby) Swift, b. in England on an unknown date, at an unknown place, and of unknown parents. She d. testate at Sandwich, Mass. before Dec. 25, 1663, the date her estate inventory was taken. As no record appears identifying her as a Quaker, or member of the Sandwich Meeting of Friends, she is assumed to be interred without surviving gravestone (if she had one to begin with) in Sandwich's old burying ground or old town cemetery.

Unfortunately all four died within five years of birth and were buried at St. Mary Magdalen. Her husband, Roger Dimbleby, was bur. at St. Mary Magdalen Sept. 15, 1625.
On Jan. 3, 1625/6 at St Mary Magdalen in Bermondsey, Joan m. 2) as his 2nd wife, William Swift, a citizen and leather-seller of London. He died intestate at Sandwich, Mass. prob. in late 1642, as the extensive inventory of his estate at Sandwich was filed with the Plymouth Court on Jan. 29, 1642/3. They had three children bapt. at St. Mary Magdalen who are outlined in their father's memorial.
Joan, husband William Swift, William's dau. Hannah by his 1st wife, and Joan and William's two surviving children William and Esther arrived in New England in about 1634 settling first at Sudbury, Mass. By 1640 the family was residing at Sandwich, Mass.
In Joan's will dated Oct. 12, 1662, she gave [in annotated form]:
• to her step-grandsons Samuel and John Wing [sons of her step-dau. Hannah (Swift) Wing] a mare foal of a year old;
• to her grandchild Hannah Swift [eldest child of son William] the old mare, if she [the old mare] be alive, if not, the next to her;
• to her grandchild Experience Allen [dau. of dau. Esther (Swift) Allen] a chest with drawers and my Bible;
• to her two grandchildren Hannah Swift [dau. of son William] and Experience Allen [of dau. Esther] all my linen and my pewter, to be equally divided between them;
• to Mary Darbey her wearing clothes;
• to Hannah Winge the Elder [her step-dau. Hannah (Swift) Wing] my best hat and forty shillings to her daughters, to be divided amongst them;
• to Jedediah Allen and Experience Allen [children of dau. Esther] the third part of my estate, this house and garden being part of the third;
• to her son William's children, each of them a mare foal; and "my debts being discharged, and my funeral being paid, I give the rest of my Estate to my son William, whom I make my Executor."
