In loving memory of Marian "Mare" Ellen Bartlett-Allen of Lake Havasu City. Born Aug. 3, 1951 at Los Angeles County Hospital. Passed away April 30, 2010 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Las Vegas, Nev. Age 58. Animal lover and guardian, accomplished model, equestrian, skier, and marksman as well as motocross enthusiast. Daughter of Harry Grant and Rita Bernier. Student K-8 Christian schooling, completed Nurse's Aid Training June 1968, graduated John Muir High School 1969, completed Pasadena Police Academy 1971 and attended Pasadena City College 1974-1975.
In Mare's formative years, her grandmother, Edith Gaylor, spared no expense in order that she and her sister had a Christian education. Mare worked two jobs while in high school in order to buy and board her own horse, "Shelby", a thoroughbred stud.
Married to Rich Bartlett 1979-1986. She met Terry Allen in Sept. 1972 and they were married April 15, 2000 in Lake Havasu City.
A feature model for Larry Caye Photography, North Hollywood, Calif., 1974-1985, turning down a Playboy contract. At the same time, she worked with the Pasadena Sheriffs Department as Dispatcher and Deputy Trainee as well as typesetter for several ad agencies. When she first came to Havasu, 1990, she grouted tile, laid carpet, drywall work and then became a bartender for The Arena, Jo Anne and Co., and the Roadrunner. In 1994 she started her own successful graphic design business, Pear Graphics. Lake Havasu City business affiliations include Craig and Bonnie at Paradise Advertising, as well as Mad Dog Shopper, Western Sunbelt, and American Graphics.
Survived by husband, Terry Allen, Lake Havasu City; his son, Jimmie Allen, Mesa, Ariz.; and her father, Harry Grant, Shadey Cove, Ore. Predeceased by mother, Rita Bernier, Henderson, Nev. who passed on Aug. 5, 2007; sister, Bonnie Grant, Palmdale, Calif., who passed on April 4, 2010. We would be remiss if we didn't mention that she is also survived by her loyal sixteen-year-old canine companion, Shilo, an old yellow lab that is constantly under foot and always in our hearts.
Mare, always honest and loyal to her friends, private, neat, organized, methodical, and thoughtful. One of her favorite sayings; "It's none of their business". Although we know she is with us, she will be missed beyond all measure.
A service celebrating Mare's abundant life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1605 McCulloch Blvd., South, Lake Havasu City, at 10 a.m. on June 5, 2010.
