Barbara A. Benfer, 68, of Prospect Ave., Williamsport, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 7, 2011.
Born March 9, 1943, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Pearl Welch Savits, Sr.
Barbara was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a nurse's aide at Manor Care South and a nurse's aide and volunteer for Susquehanna Home Health. She also worked in the housekeeping department at Sycamore Manor.
Barbara enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible, and taking care of family and friends. She also volunteered at the soup kitchen at the West End Community Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Beth (Christopher) Maggs of Williamsport, a sister; Virginia (Harold) Hoffman of Williamsport, a brother; Charles Savits Jr., of Williamsport, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two daughters; Kimberly Winter and Holly Winter, and a sister Leona Bower.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Newberry Church of Christ, 822 Diamond St. with Pastor Ronald Savits, officiating. A viewing will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunters Hope Foundation for leukodystrophy, P.O. Box 643, Orchard Park, NY 14127
