Paul William was born to Rev. William Harvey & Adele Cecelia Bigler Romig. Paul's father was a Moravian Church minister, and their sizeable family moved about the mid-west while Rev. Romig did home mission work. Paul had nine siblings, eight of whom survived to adulthood.

Rev. Romig retired and passed away in 1916 in Iowa. Adele moved her large brood to Madison, Wisconsin, where she finished raising her children.

According to Paul's WW I draft registration form, he was of average height and build, with brown hair and eyes.

Paul married Miss Margaret Trudell, daughter of Fabian J. & Mary Josephine Foster Trudell on 30 June, 1926 at Menominee, Michigan. The couple settled in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Paul was a mechanical engineer, and was active in civic organizations. He and Margaret raised two children. Daughter Dr. Mary Romig, born in 1928 was a physicist for NASA and never married. Their son, Paul Romig, Jr. married and had three children.

In 1973, at age 75, Paul married a lady by the last name of Holmes. They lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After his death 18 years later at 93, Paul was buried near his parents.
