Herman E. Campbell, residing at 806 Jackson Avenue, was a retired electrical engineer. His wife Nannie Stutzman Campbell had preceded him in death in August of 1898.
He had been a resident of the Joplin community for 55 years prior to his death.
He passed away at his home at 806 Jackson Avenue from complications of nephritis and a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 74 yrs, 10 mos & 25 days old.
Dr. H. B. Kerr, D.O. was the attending physician and funeral arrangements were cared for by Hurlbut Undertaking Company in Joplin, Missouri.
Burial was in Park Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri next to his wife.

FORMER RESIDENT SUCCUMBS AT HOME OF SON IN JOPLIN

For Years He Was Stationary Engineer in Mines of District - Funeral Here Tomorrow


Herman E. Campbell, 74, a former Carthage resident, died at 4 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Harold Campbell, 806 Jackson street, Joplin. He was a brother of Howard Wills Campbell, Willis Leroy Campbell, Minnie Campbell Neff, Miss Laura Campbell all of Carthage.
Mr. Campbell had been in ill health a year and the last six weeks his condition had been serious. He suffered from a complication of ailments.
He was born January 7, 1865 in Congress, Ohio. His father, I. C. Campbell and his family, came to Jasper county in 1884 and settled on a farm northeast of Carthage. Herman Campbell was a stationary engineer and was employed in that capacity in mines in the district for many years.
His wife, who was formerly Miss Nannie Stutzman of northeast of Carthage, died a number of years ago. The last 24 years Mr. Campbell had made his home in Joplin with his son, Harold Campbell.
Surviving Mr. Campbell besides the son and the two brothers and two sisters living here are another brother, Milton Campbell of St. Louis; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. A son, Herbert Campbell, died several years ago.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Presbyterian church here.
Funeral services were held at the Ulmer Funeral home. The rev E. E. Mace, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiated.
Mrs. R. L. Jefferies and Mrs. Thelma McClintock of Joplin sang and burial was in Park Cemetery.
