Virginia D. McMahan, 87, of Midway Street died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. McMahan retired in 1970 from Hamilton Cosco where she was an office worker.

She had been a member of Clifford United Methodist Church since 1948 and was pianist for the Sunday school and church for most of that time She was a member of United Methodist Women, was president of Christian Builders Sunday school class for many years and was a charter member of Women's Society of Christian Service

She was an active member of Bartholomew County Senior Center where she played piano for the Kitchen Band, was a former member of First United Methodist Church and the church's Sunday-school orchestra and adult choir.

Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, with the Revs. Lonnie Goen and Edward Bennett officiating. Calling will be from noon until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County.

Mrs. McMahan was born in Columbus Feb. 20, 1912, the daughter of Marshall L. and Lula Maude Gellinger Smith. She married Charles A. McMahan April 19, 1936, in Columbus. He died July 1, 1967.

Survivors include daughters, Gayle Loesch of Columbus and Judith Simpson of Carmel; a sister, Pauline Smith McMahan of Winter Haven, Fla.; grandchildren, Mark, Ted and Tim Loesch, Michelle Williams and Lori Imel, all of Columbus. Scott Nolting of Bloomington and Marika Weeks of Indianapolis; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Funeral for Virginia D. McMahan, 87, of Midway Street was conducted Thursday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel, with the Revs. Lonnie Goen and Edward L. Bennett officiating. Jay Simpson read scripture. Ruthann Stam was organist.

Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery. A trumpet solo was played by Ken Imel. Pallbearers were Mark, Ted and Tim Loesch, Scott Nolting, Ken Imel and Craig Weeks. Honorary pallbearers were Michelle Williams, Marika Weeks, Lori Imel, Dawn Nolting and Marie, Donna and Nina Loesch.

Mrs. McMahan died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
