Mary Hattie Wallace (known as Hattie) was born as a twin to Nannie Florence Wallace, daughter of Wes Wallace and Louise Seawell. Raised primarily in Moore County, their mother moved with them to Greensboro sometime after the death of their father in 1908. She married Fred Martin in 1919 just after his service during WWI.
