Services are pending at Rigdon - Ransom Mortuary, Salem for David Kidd, 56, of 1160 Fairview Avenue, who died Friday when his motorcycle crashed on Silverton Road in Northeast Salem.

Kidd was born in McMinnville. He later lived in Portland, Silverton, and a number of other Oregon cities prior to moving to Dallas in 1973.

For many years he was in law enforcement, including service with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Department, Assistant Police Chief at Harrisburg and Chief of Police at Florence.

He had been employed as a State of Oregon weighmaster for five years. For the past three years he was employed by Salem Escort Service, a motorcycle unit that escorts funeral processions. Kidd, active in the Democratic Party ran unsuccessfully for the Oregon Legislative in 1964, 1966, and 1973.

He was a member of Vincent dePaul Catholic Church; president of Salem Breakfast Optimist Club; and active with Salem Flamingo Drum and Bugle Corps.

Survivors include his widow Margaret of Dallas; children Donna Schielder of Mount Angel; Dorothy McKey and Diane Goetz both of Salem; Beth and Linda Kidd both of Portland; Patty, Lynn, and Bob, at the home; William Thomas, stationed with the Air Force at Chanute AFB, Illinois; and Donald at Springfield; father Frank Wesley Kidd of Salem; and 14 grandchildren.
