Beatrice Helmick

Beatrice C. Flanagan Helmick, 93, a resident of Mabie, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 8, 2004, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 13, 1910, at Evenwood, the daughter of the late Cordias L. Flanagan and the late Margaret "Maggie" Hedrick Flanagan.

She was married to Charles C. Helmick, who preceded her in death on June 30, 1981.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Teter and wife, Rose, of Piedmont, S.C., Ray Teter and wife, Ann, of Watauga, Tenn., and Charles Helmick Jr. and wife, Dewi, of Indonesia.

Four daughters, Louise Teter of Temple Hills, Md., Barbara Joan Riggleman of Mabie, Sharlene Helmick of Clarksburg and Joyce Harper and husband, Bobby, of Seneca Rocks; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.

Mrs. Helmick was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Pinkard; one daughter-in-law, Betty Teter; two sons-in-law, Emory Pinkard and Arden Riggleman; one brother, Cordias Flanagan; and four sisters, Grace Haddix, Zola Smith, Leah Carr and Cora Smith.

Mrs. Helmick was a member of Rowan Memorial United Methodist Church at Mabie, and along with her husband operated Helmick's Store at Mabie for 32 years.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stella Faye Moyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520 or to the Rowan Memorial United Methodist Church, Mabie, W.Va. 26278 in memory of Mrs. Helmick. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Beatrice C. Flanagan Helmick.
