DEATH of MRS. BOWEN CURLEY

The Idaho Register Friday December 11, 1903, Idaho Falls, Idaho Page 9

With hearts filled with sadness the people of Idaho Falls have again been called upon to lay at rest the remains of one of her beloved citizens. At 11 o'clock on Wednesday night the spirit of Mrs. Bowen Curley took its flight and was wafted on angel's wings to the presence of the God who gave it.

For many months she had been an intense, but patient suffer, death finally came to her relief. All that the best medical skill could do was done for her, but it was of no avail; for the past two weeks or more all hope had been abandoned, the end being looked for at any time.

Mrs. Curley's maiden name was S. Kate Baker. She was born near Roundsville, Niagara County, N. Y., on December 5, 1850. After completing her education, she came west to Iowa and Nebraska. She taught in the public schools of Lincoln, Nebraska several years, and also held the chair of English Literature in Simpson College, in Iowa, for a number of years. She was married January 23, 1886, to Mr. Curley. They lived in McGregor, Iowa, for several years and moved to Idaho Falls in the spring of 1892. About three years ago they built a beautiful home where it was a pleasure to them to entertain their friends. In her death the loss is not only to her family and relatives but, it is a great loss to the city of Idaho Falls. She has always been foremost in assisting in building up and improving the city has been the head of the Village Improvement Society, and in church matters has always been a leader. She was raised a Methodist, but when in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she had many friends from her former home, became united with the Congregational church. During her residence in this city, she has been a member of the Presbyterian church. Her life has been devoted to good deeds: where she felt that duty called, there she was always found devoting her energies to fulfill that duty. For the past three years she has been president of the board of trustees of the school district and has taken a very great interest in the schoolwork. She was one of God's noble women, is the remark that has been made many times since her passing away.

Besides a devoted husband and daughter, she leaves a mother and three brothers, E. L. Baker of Youngstown, N. Y., F. W. Baker of Seattle, Washington, and C. J. Baker of McGregor, Iowa. Her mother visited her about a year ago and two brothers were here during her illness.

The funeral is taking place at the residence this afternoon. Rev. E. D. Allen officiating. As a token of respect, the schools have been closed and the banks have all closed their doors during the funeral exercises.
