By: ST. JAS. B. ALEXANDER
Funeral services were held at Beard's Creek Primitive Baptist church Tuesday for Mrs. J.H. Durrence,82, who died in Tampa, Fla., March 3, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.W. Story. Mrs. Durrence had been in failing health for some time and while her death was not wholly unexpected, it came as a severe shock to her family and friends. She s a native of Liberty county and came from one of the pioneer families who settled in this part of the state. Before her marriage she was Catherine Angelina Parker, the daughter of the late Rev. William Parker, who resided near Jones Creek and what was known at the time as Johnston Station, now Ludowici. She was married to J.H. Durrence, late of Glennville, Tattnall county, who was one of the best known and highly respected citizens of his county. To this union were born eight children, six of whom survive her: three sons, H.H. Durrence of Reidsville, John and Cleve Durrence of Glennville; three daughters, Mrs. W.W. Story and Mrs. W.H. Bailey of Tampa, and Mrs. G.W. Tootle of Reidsville; one brother, S.M. Parker, Lake City, Fla., and twenty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
