Charles (Charley) Alcide Gremillion, Jr., passed away to his eternal life on July 4, 2011, due to complications of Alzheimer's. A native Houstonian, Charley was born August 1, 1926, to Charles Alcide and Ida Belle Gremillion. He attended grade school at Christ the King parish in the Heights and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1943. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Charley graduated from the University of Houston in 1951. In 1952, he met Betty Ann O'Rourke, also of Houston, at a Saint Anne's Young Adult Club event and on August 8, 1953, they married, driving off in a car painted with the words, "Watch Houston Grow!" and so, together, they started their family of 8 children. In 1964, with 7 children under the age of 10, Charley and Betty Ann embarked on a new venture to start A&E Products Co.,Inc., now A&E - The Graphics Complex, where his 5 sons still work today. While getting the company off the ground, Charley delivered the Houston Post and often took his children with him in the early morning hours to "roll the paper"- something they loved and will never forget.
After losing Betty Ann to cancer in 1986, he found love again, and on March 19, 1992, married Jackie Young. Together, they enjoyed many great times and countless hours with their children and grandchildren. Jackie, with the help of Charley's eight children, provided continuous care for Charley throughout his extended illness.
During his lifetime, Charley was a faithful Catholic and an active member of Christ the King, Holy Ghost, St. Francis de Sales and St. John Vianney parishes in Houston. He was instrumental in the formation of the Perpetual Adoration ministry at St. John Vianney and, as an alumnus of St. Thomas High School, was active in the school's annual Round Up.
Charley is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Ann O'Rourke Gremillion, and their infant son (and twin to son, Rock), Richard Thomas Gremillion.
