She was the paternal grandchild of Thomas Jefferson Fly (ca. 1825) and Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Thigpen; and gr-grandchild of Elisha Boon Fly (ca. 1804) and his unknown (1st) wife, believed to be a Haywood, all of Edgecombe County. She is a direct descendant William Flye/Fly and Mary Smith known to be in Isle of Wight ca. 1658. On her mother's side, she was the maternal grandchild of William D. Coker (ca. 1817) and Charlotte Neal of Edgecombe County.
Minnie married (1st) around 1900-1902, when she was about 20 years old, to "Unknown" Edmondson of Edgecombe County and by him had a son, Robert W. Edmondson (ca. 1903). This first husband died soon after the birth of their only child, and Minnie married (2nd) sometime after 1904 to James "Jim" Ruffin a widower 30 years her senior with 13 children.
Minnie removed with her son, Robert, to the Ruffin home in Swift Creek, Edgecombe County, where she became stepmother to at least 3 of Jim's youngest children. Minnie was widowed again when Jim Ruffin died in 1915 at age 64.
Following her 2nd husband's death, Minnie left the Ruffin farm and resided in downtown Tarboro where she was joined by her widowed mother, spinster sister Maud, and stepson Dred "Mark" Ruffin. She died there in 1930 at age 50, having survived her husband 15 years.
Minnie's parents and her 2 siblings, William Fly and Maud Fly, are all buried here in Greenwood.
