M. P. Kellogg, who taught school in the Sixth District, at Mount Pleasant, in 1845, 1846, and part of 1847, prepared Luther M. Smith for Emory College, the first of two boys that graduated from any college from Coweta, Georgia. Luther M. Smith returned to Coweta, taught school awhile in Coweta, afterwards became President of his Alma Mater and afterwards Chancellor of the Mississippi University and President of Southern University.
