Nicholas "Nick" Mark VanDyke, 28, of W. Second Ave., Elkhorn, WI, died as the result of a tragic, work-related accident on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. He was born at Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn on March 27, 1983, the son of Charles and Mary VanDyke. He attended Elkhorn Area Schools beginning in kindergarten, and graduated with the class of 2001. Nick worked at Lockhart's Service Station for 12 years as a mechanic and at The Lauderdale Landing as a bartender since it reopened last May. He loved running, cars, basketball, darts, and pool league, but most of all he loved showing off pictures of his nieces and nephews and telling stories about them to anyone who would listen.
Nick will forever be missed by his parents, Charles and Mary VanDyke; his brothers and sisters: Dan (Andrea) VanDyke of Elkhorn, Kyle (Mark) Peterson of Elkhorn, Erin (Clayton) Erikson of Janesville, Brooke (Jaime) Lile of Elkhorn, and Scott (Alicia Madaus) VanDyke of Elkhorn; and his nieces and nephews: Jordan and Erik VanDyke, Connor, Cailin, and Carson Peterson, Matthew and Charlie Erikson, Bryn and Kyrin Lile, and Giselle VanDyke; his best friend and ‘roomie', Chad Schleiger of Elkhorn; and numerous members of his extended family and large circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry VanDyke Sr. and Henrika VanDyke; and his maternal grandparents, Warren and Marion Beach.
