Named in honor of his uncle Henry Rodney Adair who fell during the Battle of Carrizal, Mexico.

He died of cancer at age 30 and has an annual award that honors his legacy. The Rodney Adair Award for Distinguished Service award is given by the OCIABC is the Oregon-Columbia chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.
