In lieu of flowers, memorials have been requested to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Brandon Tyler Mangels, 10, passed away unexpectedly July 6, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals following an accident on the family farm.
Brandon was born in Davenport, Iowa, on February 15, 2001, the son of Mark and Shari (Ahrens) Mangels. Brandon was planning to be a fifth grader this fall at Blue Grass Elementary School. Brandon loved to help out on the family dairy farm and to ride his horses, especially Odie and Whitey. He was an active member of the Silver Spur Saddle Club, from which he enjoyed a large collection of trophies from competitions.
Brandon had a heart of a cowboy and was truly loved by all he knew. His family and friends will miss his wit and loving nature, and, of course, his dancing and singing. While always willing to perform his latest song or dance move, Brandon recently performed with a real band at his parent's anniversary reception. Brandon also was quite a ladies' man - always surrounded by a group of young women twice his age. He was an adventurer and packed more life into his much-too-brief 10 years than most do in a lifetime.
Brandon was preceded in death by great-grandparents, George and Luella Mangels, Orey Schumaker, Hubert and Dorothy Ahrens, and Donald Goldermann.
In addition to his parents, Brandon is survived by sisters, Amber Berhenke (Jason Harland) and Shawna, Blue Grass, and brother, Ryan, at home; nephews, Michael, Tyler and Trevor Berhenke; paternal grandparents, Carol Mangels (Kenny Pries), Davenport, and Ruben and Cheryl Mangels, Blue Grass; maternal grandparents, Daryl and Pam Ahrens, Davenport; great-grandmothers, Mabel Schumaker and Phyllis Goldermann; aunts and uncles, Steve and Lori Mangels, Blue Grass, Lisa and Brian Garlock, and Steve Ahrens, all of Davenport; cousins, April, J.R., Brady, Katelyn, Madison, Mathew, Mackenzie and Rachel; and his many, many special friends. All will miss him deeply.
