MARY ELLEN O'DONNELL
Mary Ellen Pollard O'Donnell was born May 5, 1912, near Schuyler, Neb., to William and Clara (Chamberlain) Pollard. She attended high school in Osceola and nurse's training at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ottumwa.
She worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Wayne County Hospital, Lucas County Memorial Hospital and the Chariton Manor. She owned and operated the O'Donnell Nursing Home in Russell for 25 years and the Mill Pond Restaurant and Bar for six years.
She was married to Ed O'Donnell, who died in 1973.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her sister; seven brothers; husband, Ed; son, Jim; and one grandson.
She is survived by her brother, Edwin Pollard of Osceola; daughters, Delores and husband Jim Carroll, of Russell, Mary Conway of Creston and Marilyn Cook of Chariton; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Eagles Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chariton, with Father William Miller officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.
