The Waterville Times, Friday, April 12, 1912:

Adelbert Ray Totman entered peacefully into rest at his home on Hanover street last Wednesday afternoon, at the age of fifty eight years. He was born in Pharsalia, Chenango county, being the son of Edsel B. Totman and Mariah Maydole Totman, and his youth and early manhood were spent upon his father's farm. In 1876 he was united in marriage with Ida S, Carpenter, daughter of George W. carpenter of Pitcher. Soon after their marriage they moved to Norwich, where he was in the employment of the hammer factory of his uncle, David Maydole. In the year 1883 he moved to this village, where he was employed by A.E. Eldredge as a painter and decorator, in which he was a skilled workman. His work was of the very best and his services were sought by those in the city as well as out of town. He was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father, and will be greatly missed in his home. For many years he has been a member of the M.E. Church and he was a faithful attendant as long as health permitted. He belonged to Waterville Lodge, No. 74, I>.O.O.F, also to the Rebekah Degree and was a member of the Encampment and Canton, No. 23, and of the Ready Relief Association of Utica. Mr. Totman is Survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter, Alexander P. and Gladys Marie of this village, and Harry A. of Cortland, and by two brothers and one sister, Rev. A.M. Totman of Benson, Neb., Dr. D.M. Totman of Syracuse, and Mrs. Alonzo Blackman of Norwich, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will held from his late home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The members of Waterville Lodge, No. 74, I.O.O.F., and Crystal Star Rebekeah Lodge, No. 325, are invited to attend in a body. Interment will be made in the family plot in Waterville Cemetery.
