Sallie Allen Gray was born in the Tennessee foothills on September 7, 1925. She graduated from the Knox County School System in 1943. She went to college at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated with a B.S. degree in Education.

She taught school for a year then went on to Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and received her Master's Degree in religious education in 1952. She moved back to Tennessee and became the Youth Minister for Inskip Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee and worked for 3 ½ years. She later taught at Rivermont Elementary School in Chattanooga.

She attended White Oak Baptist Church where she met Mrs. Christine Eady who later introduced her to her brother, Mr. G.C. Burson from Carrollton, Georgia. Mrs. Eady thought they might make a good match. After a 10 month courtship seeing each other every 2 weeks (Mr. Burson was building a house in Carrollton) they were married on November 26, 1959 in Knoxville, Tennessee at Inskip Baptist Church. They lived in the house on Tyus Road in Carrollton for 43 years until they moved to their home on Lake Carroll.

Sallie taught school at Burwell, Central, and Carrollton Junior High for 23 years. She retired in 1987, after 31 years of teaching students. She was faculty advisor for the High-y Club at Carrollton Jr. High School taking many students on their first trips away from home. She loved spending time with all her students on their first trips away from home. She loved spending time with all her students and children in the church. She was active for years in the Carroll County Soup Kitchen, Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon and on many committees within the church and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Central Band Booster Club supporting their son, Mark in the band.

Sallie loved to do cross-stitching, sewing and arts and crafts. She and G.C. designed their own "Dirty Birds" Atlanta Falcon yard art and displayed it in their yard at Lake Carroll. She enjoys cooking, traveling with G.C. and camping with the "Gang". She loves her grandchildren, Christy and Jesse and enjoyed taking them to the beach in the summer.

Sallie spent her time enjoying her cards, letters and mail from friends and relatives. She loved the visits from the youth groups from Tabernacle Church, visits with the grandchildren, and enjoyed beating G.C. at Wheel of Fortune.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, G.C. Burson, Jr.; also 3 infant brothers and an infant sister.

Survivors include her son, Mark Burson and his wife, Linda Di Mare of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Christy Burson and Jesse Burson; also several nieces and nephews.
