Erwin served as a Private First Class, Company E, 306th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Livingston County, New York prior to the war. His parents originally resided in Dansville, Livingston County but moved to 36 Ward Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York during the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 26, 1942 at Fort Niagara, Youngstown, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of furniture and also as Single, without dependents.

Erwin was "Killed In Action" on Leyte during the war.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Dansville Breeze: Sept 2, 1948

The body of PFC Erwin Forrester, son of MR. and Mrs. George Forrester of Rochester, arrived in Dansville yesterday for reburial services.

PFC Forrester was killed in action on Dec 21, 1944 on Leyte Island in the Philippines.

The World War II veteran entered service in February 1942, while his parents were residents of Dansville. He was a member of the 77th Infantry, 306 Division.

An American Legion Guard of Honor and Color Guard met the train to escort the body to the funeral home. Full military services are this afternoon. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Forrester of Rochester; three sisters, and one brother.
