Carrie Ann was born to John M. Ainsworth and Sarah Ann Parker in the town of Hicksville, Ohio. Her father was one of the leading citizens of the town as well as one of the most successful merchants. She was oldest of four daughters, the other three being Nettie, Alda and Susie. Carrie attended school in Hicksville where it is said she was seen from a passing train by her future spouse Charles Bassett. The young and ardent suitor Charles Bassett, even jumped off a fast track train when he saw her waving from her front door and broke his leg. Jumping slower freight trains headed to the Scipio Bridge earned continual stern admonitions for obvious reasons. She married Charles Lewis Bassett on 28th of Dec 1882. They resided in Anderson where Charles operated a jewelry store until he died in 1912.They had 10 children, 3 son and 7 daughters. According to a obituary in the Anderson Daily Bulletin Carrie passed away in 1937 while staying with one of her daughters in Portland, Oregon. She was cremated and buried in Maplewood Cemetery beside her husband Charles. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Science.
