A native of Ladonia, Fannin Co., Mr. Boyd was a singing cowboy who starred on the radio and in western movies in the 1930s and 1940s. His father was a cattle rancher, and during his youth, he combined singing and guitar playing with his job of cattle punching. Mr. Boyd began his radio career in his teens, forming the Cowboy Rambler band. He was known both as "Bill Cowboy Rambler Boyd" and "Bill Radio Boyd." Boyd was best known locally for the "Cowboy Rambler" radio program that he started in 1929 on WPR. He starred as a frontier marshal and cowhand in six musical western movies released in the 1940s. His first starring role was in Texas Manhunt, which premiered in Dallas' Capitol Theatre in 1931. The most popular of his pictures was Tumbleweed Trail. Boyd recorded more than 300 records for RCA-Victor until 1973.
