Pamela P. Glass, 76 years of age, of Beatrice died at the Homestead House on Monday night, July 4, 2011.

She was born on July 7, 1934, in Minden, Neb., to C. E. "Pete" and Maxine R. Peterson and lived her entire life in the Beatrice area. She was a 1952 graduate of Beatrice High School, a 1954 graduate of William Woods College in Fulton, Mo., obtaining an Associate Degree of Fine Arts with an emphasis on Vocal Music; a 1961 graduate of UNL Teachers College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education, followed by a 1970 graduation from UNL, obtaining a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in English and Reading.

She began teaching at Blue Ridge Rural School, followed by Wymore Public Schools (Math and high school Vocal Music), Stoddard School (5th and 6th grade), Beatrice Junior High (English), and the former Pershing College (English). After she retired from teaching, she was co-owner of Wholesale Supply until her retirement in 1982.

Pam was generous in giving to others as she volunteered throughout the community. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist and used that talent to accompany and/or sing for numerous weddings and funerals, Job's Daughter's events, and Beatrice Elementary and Junior High music concerts. She volunteered at the Beatrice Greenhouse, played the piano at the Good Samaritan Center for Sunday services, played the piano and provided nail care for residents at Parkview Center and worked part time at the 1⁄2 Price store.

She further dedicated her time cooking meals for others, and delivering Meals on Wheels. She volunteered at the Beatrice Community Hospital Health Fairs, the Gage Co. Immunization Clinic, the Voting Polls, and was a Reading Buddy at the Beatrice Public Library. She loved her neighbors and her many friends, Nebraska football; playing Bridge; dogs and cats; music and attending the stock car races. She especially enjoyed reading and knitting.

Pam was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, having served as choir director and organist for many years and was a past vestry member. She was a Life member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association and a current and/or past member of the University of Nebraska Foundation, Cosgrove Music Club, Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma sorority, a Golden Anniversary member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a majority member of Job's Daughters, Gage County Historical Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Beatrice Education Association, Nebraska State Education Association, Beatrice Education Foundation, Beatrice Arts Council and the Beatrice Humane Society.

Since her diagnosis with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in August of 2007, she faced each day with determination and quiet dignity. Pam and her daughter Laurie especially appreciated the love and care shown to her by Rhoda Pethoud, Darlene Folkerts, Lois Swoboda, and Kathy Fisher, the staff at AseraCare Hospice, the staff at Homestead House, and all of the Blue Rivers Area on Aging Handibus Staff.

Pam is survived by her daughter, Laurie A. Glass of Houston, Texas; and her beloved dog, Rozey. She was preceded in death by her parents, C. E. "Pete" and Maxine Peterson; and her brother, W. R. "Bill" Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the Christ Church Episcopal, Fifth and Lincoln, Beatrice, with Father Samuel Boman and Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. The body will lie in state Sunday from noon-5 p.m., and Monday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel, Sixth and Washington, Beatrice, and not at the church. Pam has requested that memorial gifts or donations be directed to the Beatrice Humane Society or CURE PSP at 30 East Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093 with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in charge.
