John Stave

Lengby, May 11.-John Stave, of Lengby, died last Friday evening at 6:55 p.m. He was born at Trondhjem, Norway, in 1856, and came to this country in 1883, locating at Zumbrota, Minnesota; but learning of better oppourtunities in northern Minnesota, he came north and took up a homestead about two miles north of here, which he later sold and bought a farm in south Columbia about one mile from Lengby. As years began to creep upon him and his health failing, he retired from farming and bought a residence in Lengby, where he has lives for the past five years. He has suffered from Bright's disease for several years, which was the cause of his death.

The funeral was held Monday from the residence and from the St. Paul Norwegian Lutheran church, The services were conducted by Rev. A. Sorenson, of Bagley. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in Lengby. Friends came from far and near and the little village practically abandoned all business during the time of the funeral. Those who survive him are his wife and seven children: Alfred Stave, of Ebro; Olous Stave, Minneapolis; Mrs. Conrad Laines, Mrs. C.J. Yngve, Mrs. Nels Asleson, Willie and Johnnie of Lengby. His only living sister, Anna Udseth, and brother-in-law from Duluth were present at the funeral.
