Woman Pioneer Dies
Mrs. Clara Prescott, Early Settler at Sergeant Bluff
Mrs. Clara Prescott, of Sergeant Bluff, a pioneer and early settler of Woodbury and Monona counties, died on Saturday, February 23, at a hospital in Sioux City. She was 67 years, 5 mos, 7 days of age, and has had ill health for several years.
Mrs. Prescott was born on the 16th of September, 1856 in Ohio. She first moved to Wisconsin and then to a farm near Whiting. On November 25, 1878, she was married to G. W. Prescott. Five children survive Mrs. Prescott. There were eight. Those living are Mrs. C. F. Marquart, Lawton, Ia; H. S. Prescott and G. E. Prescott, Sioux City; Mrs. H. L. Woodford, Sergeant Bluff; and H. G. Prescott, Nooman, N.D. There also are 14 grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Prescott were member of the Congregational Church of Sergeant Bluff. The deceased spent practically all of her married life in Sergeant Bluff where she was known to everyone for her unselfish kindness and neighborliness. Her devotion to her home and her children was ideal and was beautifully expressed in her constant labor and sacrifice for them. Funeral services were held at the Sergeant Bluff Community Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in Sergeant Bluff cemetery. The service was beautiful. The funeral march was played by Miss Faith Woodford. "Lead, Kindly Light" was sung by a quartet composed of F. C. Colby, Mrs.R. D. Woodford, Miss Lily Gay and J. Rundle. Prayer by Rve. Lyn, of Lawton. A solo, "Shadows" by Rev. Lynn. Secripture reading and obituary by Rev. Lyle. The funeral sermon by Rev. Rambo of Holstein, Ia. "Abide With Me" by the quartet.
