Michael Bowman was the seventh child born to George Bowman and his wife Barbara in Halifax Township, Dauphin, Pennsylvania. One year after he was born, his father died leaving his young widow to care for her young children and give birth to their last child after he died. So far, I have found no records with the family on the census records all together after their father's death, but at the time of the 1820 census George was living with his wife Barbara and 2 sons and 2 daughters in Halifax Township, Dauphin, Pennsylvania.

In 1850, 26 year old Michael was living in Halifax Township in the same household as widow Margaret Funk and her 27 year old son, Samuel P. Funk. Michael's occupation was listed as a miller.

About 1856, Michael married Rebecca R. Mehargue in Halifax Township. They had an infant daughter 11 April 1857 that only lived 1 day. No other children are known.

The 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records have Michael and Rebecca continuing to live in Halifax Township and Michael's occupation listed as a miller. In 1870 and 1880, sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Mehargue, was living with Michael and Rebecca. (Eileen Lentz)
