Mildred C. Benson, 73, Fort Madison, died Thursday, August 27, 1992, at the University Hospital in Iowa City. She had been in failing health the past eight years, turning serious in the last week. She was born August 13, 1919, in Lucas County to Edward and Mae Moncrief Clothier. She married Dr. Harry L. Benson March 27, 1942, in Princeton, MO. She was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College and taught school in Lucas and Wayne counties. She was involved in the church circle of the Sante Fe United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a resident of the Fort Madison area for 42 years. She is survived by her husband, three brothers; L. Scott Clothier, of Burlington, Walter Clothier, of Warrensburg, MO, and Dwight Clothier of Chariton; one sister, Marcia Lescoe of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sons, Dr. Timothy S. Benson, of Fort Madison and Gary L. Benson, of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Betty C.) Morlan, of Burlington; and several nieces and nehews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one son. Funeral services were held Monday, August 31, 1992 at Barr Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Robert H. Ruppert officiating. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery in the Soldiers Circle. Memorials may be sent to the Sante Fe United Methodist Church.
