Actor. Born Jean Poiré in Paris, France, he was an actor, director and screenwriter. He began his career as a stage performer and rose to prominence in the early 1950s as a voice actor on the French radio series, "Malheur aux Barbus". For feature films, he appeared in over 60, including "The Three Musketeers" (1953), "The Innocent with Forty Children" (1957), "Tale of Paris" (1962), "Atlantic Wall" (1970) and "The Last Metro" (1980). He wrote and starred in the stage play "La Cage Aux Follies" (1973), which was reprised as a successful feature film adaptation in 1978. He directed his first and only film "The Zebra" (1992), which was released shortly after his death of a heart attack at age 65.
