Mauro served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He resided at 18 Sykes Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Marines on February 18, 1941 in Rochester.

Mauro was "Killed In Action" at New Britain in the South Pacific war zone during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was first interred overseas and later re-interred here on Friday, March 11, 1949.

His cousin, Pvt. Joseph J. Ianuzzi, also died in World War II.
