"Roy E. McCorkle age 86 of Coleman, Texas passed from this life to be with The Lord on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10:55 p.m. at Coleman Healthcare.

"Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Concho Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating. Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 7:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

"He was born Roy Edmund McCorkle on January 7, 1929 in Coleman County, Texas to the late Robert Edmund an Oma Pearl Owen McCorkle. Roy was raised in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1947. On November 13, 1953 Roy married Billie Ruth Jamison in Brownwood, Texas and they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Billie preceded him in death in 2011.

"Roy was a member and Deacon of Concho Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the Coleman Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis and Exchange Club, coached minor and little league teams, Boy Scout and Weblo’s leader, was a coin collector and was on the Coleman County Medical Center Board for 4 years. He loved fishing and wood working making several replicas of original buildings of Coleman. Roy was employed with Coleman City for 34 years and served as City Manager for 23 years, retiring in 1993. He was honored by the Chamber of Commerce in 1997 with Citizen of the Year Award.

"Survivors include a daughter, Jami and husband Randy Burdick of Coleman, Texas; a son, Billy Roy and wife Judy McCorkle of Silver Valley, Texas; four grandchildren, Christi and husband Scott Northway of Coleman, Texas; Misti and husband Luke Shoemaker of Hamlin, Texas; Bryce and wife Liz Burdick of College Station, Texas; Kelby McCorkle of College Station, Texas; six great grandchildren, Cayden, Connor and Jaylie Steffey of Silver Valley, Texas; Brady and Kylee Shoemaker of Hamlin, Texas; Brant Northway of Coleman, Texas.

"Roy was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dane McCorkle in 1975; two sisters, Edna Erle Tindol and Mary Hunter; one brother, Robert McCorkle."
