Hannibal, Missouri now lies in two counties, Marion and Ralls. Most likely, Hannibal only had one County__ Marion, when Carroll was born. Carroll was a landscape, portrait and genre artist whose style ranged from academic to impressionist. He also worked as an art teacher for 20 years at the Art Student's League in New York City. He married Bertha Hall, on June 1, 1887 in New York City. His parents were Charles Henry Beckwith and Martha Melissa(maiden name unknown).

Note: "Looking for Carroll Beckwith" is a book written by Captain Robert L. Snow, Commander, Homicide Branch, Indianapolis Police Department, 1999, Rodale Books, Emmaus, Pennsylvania. It is a true story of a detective's search for his past life. With past-life regression and much research by Captain Snow, he came to believe that he had been James Carroll Beckwith in his former life.
