His name was really George Frederick. Born the oldest of 7 children to Anna Wilks and George Bateman in England. In 1872 his family immigrated to America on the Minnesota. In 1898 he returned to England on an LDS mission. He attended college at the Agricultural College in Logan, Utah, becoming a school teacher in Bear Lake Valley, worked for Parco oil, had a sawmill, had the 1st auto camp on the old Oregon Trail.
