Ardmore — Funeral services for Eddie Doyle Gentry, 81, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with Reverend Donnie Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the McAlester Cemetery, Overbrook, Oklahoma.
The son of the late Eddie Ray Gentry and Nora Catherine (Powell) Gentry was born on February 9, 1930, at Baum, Oklahoma, and passed away on July 5, 2011, at the local Veterans Center.
He and the former Imogene Moinette were married March 21, 1974, at Gainesville, Texas.
Doyle served in the U.S. Army 179th Combat Engineers from 1947-48 and the 45th Medics during the Korean War from 1950-52. Shortly after coming home from the Korean War, he went to work for Hudson Houston Lumber Company where he was employed for 40 years, retiring in 1992.
Doyle's hobby and real passion was working with wood. He would pass the hours away, as long as he had a project to do. He was well-known for the beautiful cabinets that he built. He took great pride in his work, and made sure it was done to perfection. Doyle also, enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed taking his bird dog out and quail hunting. He was also, known for the interesting stories he would tell about his childhood, and also during the time he was in the army. It got to where he would tell his stories more frequently. Family and friends, practically had them all memorized. It didn't matter how many times he told them, we never got tired, hearing them. He always made them interesting. It meant so much to him for us to listen, as he told his stories.
He was a member of the Masters House Church, where he served on the church board for several years.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His family and friends were very special to him. Especially the grandchildren, during their growing up, he devoted a lot of time playing with them and keeping them entertained. They all loved their Papa very much. These are memories they will hold dear in their hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene of the home; two daughters, Vickie Harris and husband, Tommy of Ardmore, and Catherine John of Wichita Falls, Texas; two stepdaughters, Donna May of Falconhead and Lisa Smith and husband, John of Ardmore; one stepson, Larry Moinette and wife, Pat of Durant, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Deanna Estell, Shanna Witler, Jason May, Amanda Allen, Amber Smith, Christi Dvorak, Josh Stormer and Adam Stormer; seven great-grandchildren, Summer Estell, Bahar Alerezaei, Dalon Rhyne, Haeli Rhyne, Mahala Allen, Braylon Allen and Nicholas Stormer; three sisters, Nan King of Ardmore, Lorraine Gentry of Anadarko, Okla., and Lindell Barthel of Houston, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
