William A. Simpson Jr., 87, of Plum, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at home. He was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Center Township, Indiana County, to William A. and Ellen (Bell) Simpson, and was a lifelong resident of the community. He was a maintenance superintendent for Consol Renton Mine for 37 years. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Plum Creek, and Plum Creek-Monroeville Lodge No. 799 F&AM. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Helen (McLaughlin) Simpson; daughter, Jane (Bill) Thewes, of Bluffton, S.C.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Simpson, of Apollo. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the STEPHEN P. DOLENCE JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 557 Unity Center Road, Plum, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. John J. Lolla Jr. Burial will be in Plum Creek Cemetery.
