Henry P. and Elizabeth Steitz came to the US from Russia. He was a grain farmer, holding a large acreage under lease from the Russian government. The family came to this country and to Fresno in 1891; Henry SR first worked as janitor for the Farmer's National bank, later had a store, and finally entered the insurance business. He died in 1931.
