Clara is the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Milbocker.

Siblings: Esidore, Ambrose, Cecilia, Caroline, Margaret, Veronica, Patrick, Loretta and Agnes.

Clara married attorney, John L. Roach, whom she may have met while employed as a cook at the North Branch Hotel, North Branch, Michigan.

Their children: Mary, Joseph, Robert, Katrine, James and Thomas.

Clara spent most of her married life in Flint, Michigan, where her husband's law practice was located. She was a longtime member of St Matthew Catholic Church, Flint, and was past-president of the Altar Society. In addition, she was a member of St Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, Catholic Women's Club, Legion of Mary and Genesee County Bar Auxiliary.

Confirmation Name: Grizelda (When asked how she got the name, she jokingly replied, "Isn't that a 'holy' name? I looked through a book of names, and picked out one that I thought was different. I always wanted to be a little different. They accepted it, anyway.")

Hobbies: Sewing

Favorite Food: Ham Croquettes from Bill Knapp's Restaurant

Clara died at Heritage Manor Convalescent Center, Flint. A prayer service was held at 4pm, Sunday, June 28, 1992, at Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home, Flint. Her funeral Mass was 10am, Monday, June 29, 1992, at St Matthew Church, Rev. Francis P. Sullivan officiating.

Clara's Childhood Memories:

"One big occasion was the North Branch Fair. Dad gave us money, maybe 25 cents, and we'd ride on the merry-go-round. We'd buy ice-cream, cracker-jacks and stick candy. Another was the 4th of July picnic, held in the woods near our church. A permanent picket-fence enclosed the tables; cost was $1 per family. Everyone brought a dish, and the food was good.
We were neighbors of the Kreiners. Peter and Willie were brothers; operated a saloon near the church. Peter had a daughter, Loretta, who died from some sort of accident when a young child. I was about 11 and a pall-bearer at her funeral."

Note: In 1989, Clara consented to do a short taped interview about her childhood and the people in it. Anyone wishing a copy, click on my name, and e-mail me. Thank you. Mary Abbey
