COALVILLE – Mrs. Mary Rosetta (Mayme) Stevens Powell 84, died at her home in Coalville Tuesday, June 24, at 11:45 a.m. following a lingering illness.
She was born in Peterson, Morgan County, July 3, 1862, a daughter of Roswell Stevens, one of the original pioneers of July, 1847, and Mary Ann Peterson Stevens. She married Joseph Fredrick Powell in Upton on Nov. 28, 1876. They made their home in Upton until 1921, when they moved to Coalville, where she had since resided. Mr. Powell died in March, 1928.
She was affectionately known as "Aunt Mayme" to her many friends and relatives.
Mrs. Powell was a member of the Coalville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Upton Relief Society for many years.
Six of her nine sons and daughters survive. They are: Mrs. Bethia Anderson, Grantsville, Utah: Mrs. Mary Ann Nelson, Beaver, Utah: Mrs. Affalona Caldwell, El Monte, Calif.: Joseph H. Powell, Mrs. Sybil Staley and Wibur M. Powell of Coalville. She also is survived by 29 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren: also two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Eliza Jane Foote, Morgan, Utah; Mrs. Lilly M. Rock, Blackfoot, Idaho and George Fredrick Stevens, Croydon, Utah.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Summit Stake Tabernacle. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, under the direction of Bishop J. Frederick Hobson, Coalville Ward.
Interment will be in Coalville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of W. H. Dunn Mortuary.
Friends may call at the home Thursday evening and Friday until time of service.
