Mary Edith was born on January 16, 1917 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. Mary Edith was the youngest child of J.E. and Ella Walton.
Mary Edith received her BA and MA degrees from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University). Mary Edith met her future husband, Stanley Wimberley, while in college, and married in 1938.
Stanley was a World War II veteran and passed away in 1989.
Mary Edith had three passions – education, traveling, and family. Mary Edith taught elementary school in Texas. Many summers were spent with long road trips with family. Mary Edith also lived in New Mexico for several years.
Mary Edith is survived by her daughter, Enoyse (Walter) Sommer of Rio Vista, CA. Mary Edith also has five grandchildren and their families, Stanley of Livermore, CA, Trey of Allyn, WA, Maura and Nathan of Albuquerque, NM, and Karl of Pinckney, MI. Mary Edith also has numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Lodi, CA. Interment will be held at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, New Mexico.
Donations should be made to the chapel at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 1055 South Lower Sacramento Road, Lodi, CA 95242.
