Tony P. Gill, age 88, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on March 31, 2004.
Tony was born in Shelburn, Indiana on May 27, 1915, to Joe and Katie Gill.
Tony joined the military in 1942 and became a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Tony flew 17 combat missions in a B-17 bomber in World War II, before being shot down in Denmark returning from a bombing raid over Poland. Tony was able to avoid capture and after recovering from injuries, continued to fly for the United States Air Force. Tony logged over ten thousand flying hours before retiring in 1965. Tony flew for local air carriers until 1975.
Tony is survived by his wife of 57 years, Renee and his three children and their spouses, Pam Gill and Chris Boyle of South Beach, OR, Sandra and Gary White of Dallas, TX and Phil Gill and Jodi Camrud of Billings, MT and three grandsons, Robert Crawford III of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Crawford of McLean, VA and Greg Crawford of Dallas, TX.
Tony was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who loved the outdoors, good books and a fine glass of wine.
This kind and gentle man will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral arrangements are by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, with Rosary recital at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2004. The Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE, Albuquerque, NM. Burial will be at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM.
The family requests donations be made to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Dr., Ste. 100, Arlington, VA 22203 in lieu of flowers.
