Flanick, Margaret A.
of Phoenix, passed away on May 30, 2011 at the age of 85. Margaret was the third child and eldest daughter of Mary and Joseph Ludrofsky. She was born in Greensburg, PA, where she lived until the age of thirty-one. Margaret married Mark Flanick, a WWII veteran, on September 1, 1947. They resided in Pennsylvania for 7 years before moving with their two young daughters to Cleveland, Ohio. During the 25 years she lived in Cleveland, Margaret had 3 more daughters and a successful career at National City Bank. She was a woman ahead of her time, balancing career and family while most of her contemporaries were stay-at-home moms. In 1980, Margaret moved for the last time, to Phoenix. Although her husband was ready to retire, she was not. She trained with H&R Block to do taxes, worked for a time at Fishgold's Furniture in NW Phoenix and worked for many years for the Maricopa County Board of Elections. She was an active member of St. Jerome's Parish. She was also the treasurer of St. Jerome's Senior Citizen's Club and a member of Sheen's Angels. Margaret's passions included her children and grandchildren, reading, crochet and BINGO! She was an amazing card player and a formidable opponent at Scrabble. She will be dearly missed by her family and all the close friends she made during her 31 years in Arizona. Mrs. Flanick was preceded in death by her husband, Mark (1986) and son-in-law Robert Hick (2007). She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Kline (David), Marcia Hick, Carol Phelps (Jack), Amy Landis (John), and Rebecca Opalka (Thomas), 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Marie's Board and Care for their loving care over the past few months. They made a hard time much easier to bear. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street, from 5 pm to 9 pm. A funeral mass will be at 10 am Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 10815 N. 35th Ave. with a brunch to follow at the church hall. Burial will be at 1 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com to send online condolences.
