Graveside services will be Wednesday for longtime Tracy resident John Earl Alaway, 70, who died Oct. 20 at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital following a long illness.

A native of Klamath Falls, Ore., Mr. Alaway lived in Tracy 13 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force 20 years, retiring as a staff sergeant in 1971.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1537 and American Legion Post 172, both in Tracy.

Mr. Alaway is survived by seven children, Donald Alaway, Christine Sargent, Sharon Williams and Sandra Alaway, all of Texas, Jakie Alaway and Juanita Bell, both of North Carolina, and Michael Alaway of Idaho; and his friend and caretaker, Robert Macias of Tracy.

Wednesday's services will begin at 10 a.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 W. Cabe Road, in Gustine. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is assisting with arrangements.
