Funeral services for George Edward Everett Downs, 73, will be conducted at 2 p.m. June 8 at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, with Pastor Mike Parker officiating.


Mr. Downs died June 4, 2006, at Wyoming Medical Center. He was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Fidelity Township, Jersey, Il, to Everett Oscar Downs and Velma Louise Hunter. He was raised and went to school in Jerseyville, IL.

On Jan. 22, 1956, he married Ordella Berdine Myers in Casper. They lived in Casper at various times during their 50 years together. The family moved around Wyoming, living in Rock Springs, Lander, Thermopolis and Worland, while George worked in building and road construction jobs. In 1995, after retirement due to health problems, they moved to Douglas to be close to family. The family also lived in Illinois for a time.

Mr. Downs enjoyed fishing and watching boxing and Chicago baseball games.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; sons Glenn Downs of Glenrock, Robert Downs of Douglas and Earl Downs of Casper; daughters Annette Hilyard of Douglas,and Carol Haddenham of Cheyenne; grandchildren Derrick and Scott Elliott, Shawn, Eddy and Amanda Downs and Jacob Haddenham; and great-grandchildren Jacob Elliot and twin girls Natalee and Nicole Downs.

He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother Glenn and sister Isabell Keyes.

Memorials may be made to family in care of Bustards Funeral Home in Casper.
