Stella A. Johnston, 85, of Church Street, Amston section of Hebron, died Tuesday, (May 28, 2002) at her son and daughter-in-law's residence. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late John and Anna Hnatyshyn Stula. Stella was married on Sept. 6, 1947, at the Old St. Andrew Church in Colchester to John J. Johnston, Jr. He died on March 24, 1960.
She was a hairdresser and owned and operated Stan's Beauty Salon in Colchester, retiring in 1982. She loved to knit, was a member of both Colchester and Hebron Senior centers, was a communicant of St. Andrew's Catholic Church of Colchester.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Mindy Johnston of Hebron, John and Deborah Johnston of Brooksville, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann and Teddy Slatus of Colchester; a brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Loretta Stula of Colchester; a sister, Margaret Machowski of Rocky Hill; two grandsons, Brian Johnston, Jr. and his fiancee, Alisha and Jake Johnston; four granddaughters, Amy, Katie, Kiley, and Rebecca Johnston; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Joseph Stula.
Funeral services will be held TODAY, with calling hours 1 p.m. at the Belmont Funeral Home, 144 South Main St., Colchester, followed by a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew Church on Norwich Ave., Colchester, burial to follow in New St. Andrew Cemetery. Donations to her church or to the Colchester Hayward Fire Department.
