MR. WORTHINGTON W. ABBOTT
SCHENECTADY GAZETTE
TUESDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 14, 1937

Former Police Chief Succumbs
FORT PLAIN, Dec. 13.—Worthington W. Abbott, 62, died at his home, 3 Abbott street this morning. Sunday at night he suffered a stroke of paralysis and never regained consciousness. He was born here January 6, 1875, the son of the late John and Matilda Geesler Abbott. As a young man he enlisted in the United States army, serving in the cavalry, and was stationed in the far west. After leaving the army he returned here, where he had since resided. Mr. Abbott was a Democrat. and had served the village for two terms as chief of police and later as a patrolman. He was a member of Otsquago Lodge, I.O.O.F., and the First Methodist Church. Beside his widow he leaves one son, Donovan Abbott of Schenectady; one daughter; Mrs. Frank Ruswig of Utica; one sister, Mrs. Alfred Kingston of Miami. Funeral services will be held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. William H. Hammersley, pastor of the First Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be made in the Fort Plain cemetery.
