John enlisted January 1941 in San Francisco. He was stationed on the island of Bataan before the war broke out. He was forced to participate in the March of Bataan.
Imprisoned and died at Camp Cabanatuan, Central Luzon, Philippines. It was reported to the family that John died of malaria, dysentery and starvation.
John was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Forces 34th Pursuit Squadron, 24th Pursuit Group and served as a mechanic.
Son of John M. Bagwell and Jettie Beatrice Switzer Bagwell (stepson to Mina Lois Clement Bagwell). Brother of Jessie Beatrice Findlay; Elsie May Woolery; Alva Lewis Bagwell; Ethel Lois Brummet; Richard Earl Bagwell.
