US Congressman. He graduated from the University of Missouri, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1864 and commenced to practice in Huntsville, Missouri. In 1879, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-sixth Congress, serving until 1881. An unsuccessful candidate for renomination, he resumed the practice of law and served as president of the board of curators for the University of Missouri, from 1890, until his death at age 57.
