U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the Missouri State Normal School, in 1900 and then taught school in Cape Girardeau and Ripley Missouri Counties, for several years. He attended the Washington Law School Missouri, was admitted to the bar in 1903 and commenced to practice law in Doniphan, Missouri, in 1904. He was prosecuting attorney of Ripley County, (1906-12), a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, (1913-19) and Mayor of Donihan, (1919-21). In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress, served until 1925, reelected to the Seventieth Congress, serving (1927-29) and reelected to the Seventy-second Congress, serving (1931-33). An candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was judge of the Springfield Court of Appeals, from 1937, until his death at age 71.
