Dorothy King

Dorothy was the daughter of John and Esther. It was at her parent's home that she helped out every year when the family came for the family reunion. Every year for as long as we kids can remember, on the 3rd Sunday in May we would get dressed up and go out to the country. We would all meet at Oakland Cemetery and place flowers on my Great Grandparent's grave, and those of three of their children as well that did not make it to adulthood. From the cemetery we would go to Uncle John A.'s house for the best afternoon of the year. It was a time to catch up with cousins, play ball, eat some of the best country southern cooking in the world and having your cheek pinched by aunts and great aunts who you hadn't seen in a year. It was always looked forward to. When both of her parent's passed on, Dorothy took on the job of hosting the annual reunion. She never thought of it as a job, it was all a labor or love for her. She wanted every one to come and to have a great time. She was one of the kindest, friendliest and sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure to know. She is missed every year and thought of often with love. And now, we place flowers on her grave as well and remember....
