Edith Alberta Giddins, 86, who made her home with her daughter, Edith Hamilton in Yellow Springs, Ohio, formerly of Canton, Mo., died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in the Greene Oaks Nursing Home in Xenia, Ohio, where she had been a resident since Dec. 23, 2003.

She was born Jan. 11, 1918 in Lewistown, Mo., the daughter of Albert and Bernice Majors Washington. She married Andrew J. Pleasant in 1932 in Canton, Mo. She married Jackson Giddins on Nov. 29, 1957 in San Diego, Calif. He died Dec. 24, 1998.

Mrs. Giddins attended Green Chapel Baptist Church in LaGrange, Mo.

She was employed as a registered nurse for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include: a daughter; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, a brother; a sister; a dear friend; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris V. Gildon; a son, Samuel J. Pleasant; and a sister, Lucille Snively.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, Quincy, Ill., by Rev. John Mims.

Private family burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk.
